Speak City Heights is a media collaborative aimed at amplifying the voices of City Heights residents. AjA runs photography-based programs with teens from Crawford High School, using its participatory approach, to help participants generate photographs and narratives that will guide media partners in creating news stories relevant to City Heights community members.

AjA student Juana created this photo essay to honor her mother’s hard work and the sacrifices she makes for her children. Juana has been in AjA for more than 5 years. This essay was shown at the World Refugee Day Event held at the Museum of Photographic Arts on June 19, 2011 along with other photo essays from AjA’s Journey III students.
